Today, I will write about one of the cultural differences that I have noticed since arriving in Arezzo. In America, dogs are not permitted in restaurants, stores, and most other indoor locations. Thus, when I first arrived, I was shocked to see a dog sitting under a table in a restuarant while its owners had dinner. Since then I have noticed dogs in cafès and stores as well. One day my friend and I saw a puppy in a shoe store, which was extremely surprising because in America we always think of dogs as animals which chew on shoes.
If you have any questions about life in America or would like to practice speaking English, please leave a comment or come to InformaGiovani Mondays from 17,00-19,00It is also surprising to see how many people have their dogs out walking with them at any given point in time. I believe that there may be more people out with their dogs here because it is so much easier to bring dogs into stores and restaurants. In America, people generally leave their dogs at home unless they are going out for the specifically to walk the dog. Because people generally cannnot bring their dogs out with them, Americans are less likely to own dogs unless they have a house with a fenced yard in which the dog can run.
Dogs here are also more likely to be wearing some type of clothing. In America, it is very rare for dogs to be wearing anything, particularly bigger dogs. Here, I have noticed all sorts of dogs wearing clothes, much more often than I would see in the United States. I also saw dogs wearing parkas and other jackets when it was cold out, which I had never seen before coming here.
